The Harmony Ball pendants used in our Dazzlers Harmony Necklace
range in this category vary in both type and size. We have the most
diverse range available anywhere, offering customers many more choices.
Every item is individually hand made by Artisan silversmiths on the
island of Bali, Indonesia, using skills passed down through the
generations. The skill and artistry displayed in the finished product is
quite ornately beautiful. It is thought that the harmony ball as we know it originated in Indonesia where it is known locally as a Gamelan ball or 'music' ball.
Who wears a Harmony Necklace?
they are worn generally by those looking to add some 'harmony' into
their lives and are also often worn by women during their pregnancy,
with some reported benefits (see this article),
and hence is sometimes referred to as a pregnancy necklace. Often case a
harmony necklace becomes a family keepsake jewelry piece, handed down
from mother to daughter.
Types of Harmony Ball;
Hinged Cage style:
this style consists of a hinged Sterling Silver cage into which a chime
ball is placed. The chime ball as its name suggests creates the chime
sound. These hinged cages come in a number of different ornate designs.
The chime ball can be made of different materials including sterling
silver and polished brass and also brass enameled in different colors.
This style almost always includes a gemstone set on the extended pillar
of the cage pendant. With a variety of cage types, chime ball colors and
Gemstone selection the numerous combinations allow the purchaser to
choose a style and look that suits them, their personality. It also
allows expecting mothers to choose a gemstone that relates to the
expected birth month of their baby.
Traditional Balinese style:
this style is a 'solid' harmony ball, made in two halves with the chime
ball placed inside and then the two halves are soldered together. Made
from Sterling Silver each and every piece of ornate silver work on the
outer skin on most styles is hand placed by the Artisan, an amazing
skill considering how fine much of this ornate silver work actually is.
Many of these styles are also available as 'antiqued' which produces a
stunning look with the highlighted silver work against the dark ball. It
is the appreciation of this skill of the Artisan in hand making each
individual Harmony Ball that adds to its charm.
Sizes of Harmony Ball pendants available on our Harmony Necklaces;
Available sizes in the hinged cage style range are 3/4" (18mm/20mm),
7/8" (22mm), 1" (24mm), 1 1/8" (26mm) and 1 3/16" (28mm) Available sizes
in the solid Traditional Balinese style range are 1/2" (12mm), 5/8"
(14mm), 3/4" (18mm/20mm), 7/8" (22mm), 1" (24mm), 1 1/8" (26mm) and 1
3/16" (28mm) Generally speaking the larger the harmony ball then the
more harmonious is the chime sound - it is a matter of acoustics (more
space for the sound to resonate).

Harmony Ball or Bola Necklace or Harmony Necklace or Angel Caller?
What's in a name - is there a difference?
Often but not exclusively worn by women who are pregnant a Harmony Ball or Bola Necklace or Angel Caller or Bola de Grossesse or Harmony Necklace or Pregnancy Necklace is a chiming necklace pendant said to provide harmony between the mother and her unborn child - refer this detailed authoritative article on the 'Benefits of wearing a Harmony Ball during and after the pregnancy' which highlights the real benefit and dispels the myths.
Whatever name it is called, the buyer should be aware that there are two types of Harmony Balls, Bola Necklaces, Angel Callers etc - 'Real' and 'Copies' - 'Real' ones are Hand Made primarily of Sterling Silver - 'Copies' are mass produced in China and are 'only Plated silver' - only one will ever last to be a 'Keepsake' to hand on to your Daughter such as those quality necklaces available at Dazzlers.
So with so many names, is there a difference between them? - basically not. The Harmony Ball originates from Bali, Indonesia whilst the Bola Necklace or Angel Caller or Bola de Grossesse are of Mexican origin - both cultures having used the chiming ball for wearing by expecting mothers, among other uses (for example the ancient chiming Druid Ball was worn in Battle by Scottish warriors).
The only real difference, aside from name and aside from the critically important 'Real' and 'Copies', is some variations in design, primarily culturally evolved variations of a theme. This article 'What is a Harmony Ball?' gives more insight into the history and cultural aspects of these necklaces, also called simply a Pregnancy Necklace

Bola (pregnancy bell)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Harmony ball)
A Bola is a bell worn by women on a long necklace during their pregnancy.[1] It is traditionally used in Mexico and Bali and is know under other names, such as harmony ball and pregnancy bell. The ball hangs low on the abdomen so the gentle chime soothes the baby as mother moves. When the baby is born, the baby is believed to be extra soothed by the sound because the child associates it with its time in the womb.

Beware ‘Fake Sterling Silver’ Harmony Balls
Are you really getting Sterling Silver?
As it is with many other items Chinese manufacturers are producing ‘copies’ of Balinese Harmony Ball pendants (and have been for many years now), and the deception is that these copies are NOT made from Sterling Silver – they are merely ‘coated’ with sterling silver. These Harmony Balls are made from Alpaca, a low grade material made from a hotch botch of minerals (often passed off as Sterling Silver) and then coated. These fake sterling silver Harmony Balls are found on all types of sites on the internet, some are big name reputable sites.
Many, but not all these days, are stamped ‘C925’ on the top of the stem where normally on a genuine Balinese Harmony Ball would be set a gemstone. The mark ‘C925’ indicates ‘coated with 925’ BUT no-one else in the world does this or uses such a mark so it is very deceptive, most people assume it means 925 Sterling Silver .....
